Join us via Zoom on Sunday, February 23 at 5:30 pm Pacific time for the third and final session of Socialist Action’s Zoom webinar on the Great 1917 Russian Revolution, “The Revolution That Shook the Earth.”
[Part I focused on the historic debates regarding the nature of the revolutionary socialist party required to abolish Czarism and capitalism, its structure, program and social composition; “dual power” [the debate over bourgeois democracy versus soviet [workers’] democracy/permanent revolution]; women’s and LGBTQI equality and freedom, etc.
[Part II focused on the key political and social issues confronting the revolution party [the Russian Social Democratic Workers Party (Bolsheviks/”Majority” in the Russian language). These included the party’s stance on World War I/imperialist war, the “national question,” [the right of poor and oppressed nations to self-determination]; internationalism… the extension of the revolution to Europe/Germany/ Poland, England and beyond]
Part III will focus on the key issues that led to critical divisions in the Bolshevik Party, the NEP (New Economic Policy), collectivization of agriculture, “peaceful coexistence,” party and soviet democracy, the rise of Stalin and the Stalinist bureaucracy, the pressures of imperialism, the degeneration of the revolution, the restoration of capitalism, etc.
