Stop Trump’s Racist Deportations of Haitians and All TPS Refugees

[See editor’s note on recent ICE atrocities below.]

Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 340,000 Haitian TPS holders expires on Tuesday, February 3rd. It has already been terminated for refugees from Venezuela and Somalia, and is in danger of being terminated for refugees from Myanmar on January 28 + other countries after that. Unless the motion for a stay is granted on Feb. 2nd, Haitians would lose their work permits and could be deported starting Feb. 4. TPS is supposed to protect people from returning to unsafe conditions in their home countries. Since the 2004 US-orchestrated coup against the democratic government of President Jean-Bertrand Aristide, Haiti has been completely destabilized under US/UN occupation. The current US State Department travel advisory to Haiti even warns, “Do not travel to Haiti due to kidnapping, crime, terrorist activity, civil unrest, and limited health care.”

In today’s Haiti, paramilitary death squads armed with weapons from the United States control large parts of the country, burning, raping and terrorizing the population. Over half the population – 5.7 million Haitians – are facing acute food insecurity; 1.4 million are internally displaced due to violence. This is the situation Donald Trump and Kristi Noem want to force hundreds of thousands of Haitians to return to. Ending TPS for Haitian refugees is just as much a violent attack on human rights as the ICE raids across the US.

Protect TPS for Haiti and all TPS countries!

End ICE attacks on Migrants! Abolish ICE!

Stop the war on Venezuela and all wars for regime change!

[Editor’s note on recent ICE atrocities: Jeff Mackler: Most recently, ICE agents shot, ten times, and killed a Minneapolis Intensive Care Unit nurse, Alex Pretti, when he came to the defense of other protesters, one being pepper-sprayed by an ICE thug. On New Year’s eve, a Black man, Keith Porter, was murdered in Los Angeles, allegedly at the hands of an off-duty ICE officer with a documented history of child abuse and being racist and homophobic. A week later a Minneapolis, ICE thug Jonathan Ross, shot and killed immigrant rights activist Renee Good in her car. Good, a mother of three children, was monitoring an anti-ICE protest. The atrocity sparked a Minneapolis General Strike that mobilized an estimated 50,000 , perhaps 100,000 people.]
