Socialist Action Statement on Defeating the U.S. Imperialist Beast: U.S. Hands Off Iran, Venezuela, Cuba and Palestine!

The U.S. imperialist beast is at war again, again, and again. Last month it was against the people of Venezuela, whose president Nicolás Maduro and First Combatant Cilia Flores were abducted and 100 Cuban and Venezuelan defenders in Caracas murdered in a high tech attack demonstrating once again imperialism’s ever more sophisticated military capacities and immoral precepts. As with today’s overt regime change war in Iran, the U.S. warmakers recognize no limits to achieve their heinous ends.
Revolutionary Cuba is also in the mass murderers’ gunsights. Subjected to some 65 years of U.S.-backed invasions, blockades, embargoes, sanctions and assassinations, the U.S. billionaire elite one percent, with 1100 military bases in 100 nations at its command, cannot tolerate any nation that dares to rid itself of U.S.-imposed dictators, not to mention a nation that nationalizes land stolen from the people and grants it free to the oppressed rural workers.

Today, Venezuela, with the largest fossil fuel reserves in the world, daily finds its resources stolen by the ever-faltering imperialist empire, whose profit rates are in historic decline, increasingly incapable of competing on world markets that it once dominated.

No to the Bi-Partisan War Machine

Endless U.S. wars are the norm today regardless of which capitalist imperialist party holds the presidency. Both Biden and Trump funded and abetted the still ongoing genocide in Palestine that murdered 70,000 and wounded millions of others. Today’s posturing Democrats, a handful indeed, who supported, if not presided over all previous U.S. wars, are fraternally asking Trump for the “constitutional right” to vote on his newest venture in Iran, a right that has never been afforded to any “elected” U.S. institution. In point of fact, citing U.S. “national security” interests, Trump and all his predecessors, have conducted every war without congressional approval!

Stealing the last drop of poor nations’ fossil fuel via war, threats of war, sanctions and tariffs are the imperialist norm, a deadly inherent compulsion that today threatens a world war.

History of U.S. Imperialism in Iran

The same with the U.S. beast’s present slaughter in Iran, whose government in 1979 threw off the U.S.-imposed 1953 Shah Reza Pahlavi dictatorship-monarchy, nationalized Iran’s oil and abolished the CIA-created secret police, the infamous SAVAK, that imprisoned and tortured more people than any nation on earth. And this was followed in 1983 with the U.S.-orchestrated 10-year Iran-Iraq War that slaughtered one million Iranians and one million Iraqis. This monstrosity included the U.S. supporting both sides of the war in order to keep competitive Middle Eastern oil off world markets and to secretly raise funds for the anti-Sandinista Nicaraguan Contras via the CIA-abetted sale of tons of crack cocaine in U.S. cities. [See the notorious CIA/Contragate/Oliver North fiasco and read CIA/Crack in America, by Jeff Mackler.]

The World’s Largest Military Expenditures

The U.S. military budget, at nearly $2 trillion, if not $3 trillion annually including funds for the CIA and related “national security” agencies, exceeds the combined total of the entire world! Its objective is to ensure the interests of a failing ruling class that knows no solutions other than endless wars against working people at home and abroad.

Last year’s U.S.-Zionist war against Iran slaughtered nearly one thousand working people.  It was met by mass resistance by the Iranian people in the streets as is the case today in spite of the CIA and NGO-funded Iranian capitalist-backed agents and supporters, who are more than willing to sell their country to the wealthiest U.S. oil corporations.

Iran’s Unconditional Right to Self-determination

That Iran has zero nuclear weapons and that not a single credible source on earth has proven otherwise, is irrelevant to the imperialist beast.

But, we repeat here, our unconditional support to Iran’s right to self-determination and national sovereignty, including its right, should it so decide, to have its own nuclear weapons to deter yet another U.S. onslaught.

Need we mention that the U.S. is the only nation to use such weapons – instantly incinerating in 1945 some 200,000 civilians in Japan’s Hiroshima and Nagasaki even after Japan had surrendered!

Iranians mobilize to defend their sovereignty and leaders

As we go to press, millions of Iranians are pouring into the streets in cities across their beleaguered country to denounce the U.S./Israeli murder of Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and other top officials. Meanwhile, the U.S. corporate media, especially The New York Times, spew out endless lies while repeating Trump’s twisted rant calling on the Iranian people to overthrow the Iranian government. At best, Trump and the kept corporate media admit that only a handful responded, mostly privately, in response to Times’ reporters’ phone inquires aimed at seeking out media images backing Trump’s lies. That millions of Iranians have taken to the streets in opposition to the U.S. mass murder and to mourn Iran’s U.S.-slain leaders is clear – an undeniable fact that even The Times has been forced to admit.

A March 2, page 9 article headlined “Cheering and Grieving After Death of Leader” concluded with: “If American and Israeli leaders put out a call to take to the streets to demand an overhaul of the government, “it could turn into chaos and violence,” said a Times-quoted nameless supporter echoing its reactionary views. “They don’t really have the strength or capacity, but they have a strong desire.” The “they” referred to above went unnamed because neither The Times, nor any other source could find any evidence supporting Trump’s predicted mass opposition to the Iranian government, not to mention support for the U.S./Zionist slaughter.

That the first bombs were launched at the start of the Iranian school year killing some 175 children was similarly largely ignored or censored as were the countless numbers buried beneath the rubble.

Meanwhile, on less than a day’s notice hundreds and thousands mobilized across the U.S. with plans for massive antiwar mobilizations in the works by several antiwar coalitions, including UNAC and ANSWER.

Worldwide, opposition to the U.S. murderous and still ongoing rampage is mounting, but with no nation daring to risk any overt actions that physically defend the beleaguered Iranian masses, lest they provoke Trump and his deadly allies to punish them with ever new sanctions, tariffs, if not outright war. We live today in a crazed world of failing world capitalist regimes whose ever-antagonistic components are fully capable of launching deadly, if not nuclear wars to preserve their ever-declining financial interests. Thus, opposition to the present U.S. horror has been largely limited to words of modest condemnation.

• China has called for an immediate stop to military actions, urging a return to dialogue.

• Russia condemned the strikes as a “pre-planned act of armed aggression” against a sovereign state.
• Venezuela expressed “profound consternation” over the images of dead schoolchildren.
• Cuba called the attacks a “serious violation of sovereignty” and a “treacherous aggression.”
• Brazil condemned the attacks and called on all parties to respect international law and ensure the
“protection of civilians and civilian infrastructure.”
• Norway stated that the attack “is not in line with international law, “noting that preventive strikes
require an “immediately imminent threat.”
• Pakistan strongly condemned the “unwarranted attacks” and called for an immediate halt to
escalation through urgent diplomacy.
• The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) warned that the military escalation is
“igniting a dangerous chain reaction across the region, with potentially devastating consequences
for civilians.”
• United Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres condemned the escalation, stating that the “use of force by the United States and Israel against Iran undermines international peace and security.” A day following the U.S./Zionist war, the Iranian government launched drone missile attacks against U.S. military bases across the region, inflicting unexpected and numerous casualties including on U.S. troops, a fact that perhaps prompted the “fxxxxxg moron” Trump [a term coined by his former Secretary of State, Rex Tillerson] to announce, for the umpteenth time, that he was open to “negotiations,” a term that always includes private ruling class discussions regarding who will own and control Iran’s vast fossil fuel resources.

As for Socialist Action, although we defend the right of any and all poor and oppressed nations to “negotiate” at gunpoint with the U.S. imperialist beast, our exclusive focus is on mobilizing mass support in the streets to demand U.S. Out Now! Bring the Troops and U.S. War Machine Home Now! End All U.S. Wars Against Working People At Home And Abroad! $Trillions For Human Needs Not Endless U.S. Wars! Abolish ICE! No Human Being Is Illegal! Free Palestine!

All these critical demands can only be achieved via the united and democratically planned mass actions and movements that represent humanity’s vast majority.  Building a Deeply-Rooted Mass Revolutionary Socialist Party to Abolish Capitalist Rule is the pre-requisite to a future where imperialist wars are forever banished and freedom and social equality rein supreme.
